OPI LIQUID SAND 'THE IMPOSSIBLE' (LIMITED EDITION MARIAH CAREY) REVIEW

Whenever I think about Mariah Carey, the first thing that comes into my mind is DIVA. So its really no surprise that OPI gives her a line that's called "Liquid Sand". This is a new variant from OPI which I believe would be coming out more in their collections.

PROSTYLE FUWARIE END CURLING MIST REVIEW

I've been looking for an inexpensive heat protectant product, and luckily I stumbled upon the Prostyle Fuwarie End Curling Mist while strolling around Beauty Bar!

Korea Post #3: (Must-See Places!) Nami Island

ll be sharing about our trip to Nami Island, which is located outside of Seoul. We had to take a train (different from the subway system, sorry but I forgot the place where we took this, but its the nearest train station from Myeongdong).

MAJOLICA MAJORCA LASH and BROW COLORIST REVIEW

Having dark brows and light hair has always been a problem for me. I have always tried to put a little hair dye on my brows (which I do NOT recommend for anyone to do because this may cause severe skin irritation OR burn your skin) to lighten them up, but it hasn't worked.

ETUDE HOUSE BUBBLE HAIR COLORING IN SWEET ORANGE REVIEW

I finally tried the Sweet Orange shade of the Etude House Bubble Hair Coloring! Its a brighter shade compared to the Natural Brown, and makes your hair tons lighter.

Dating someone hot will make you look hotter

There is this wonderful research that has shown that a good-looking significant other will cause other potential mates to find you more desirable. This backs up the great saying "Mas madaling humuli ng manok na naka-tali."

It apparently works more for women than men.

Missha Cosmetics @ The SM North Edsa Annex

My fascination for anything-Korean led me to go to the recently-opened Missha at SM North last Sunday to see the wide array of cosmetics they have. My sister wanted to get her very own BB Cream and since we haven't been to Missha, which apparently has a whole line of BB Creams, we just had to go there!
Sure enough, they have a wide array of these babies, starting with their best-seller, which is the M Perfect Cover BB Cream. It has whitening, anti-wrinkle and UV protection properties. If you're on a budget though, this might be a bit pricey at P1,600 a tube.
I wasn't satisfied with their make-up ladies either. The woman who placed the BB cream on my sister looked like she wasn't even trained how to put it on. She accidentally applied the BB cream on parts of my sister's hair! Also, its a no-no for salesladies to use their bare hands in applying foundation to their customers. She should've used a sponge for hygienic reasons.

Other variants of BB Cream are also available, such as the M BB Cream (P1,200), which is their thickest BB Cream and provides the most coverage:And the M Shiny BB Cream (P1,200), for those who want that glowing look. Contains pearl cream and has a sun blocking ingredient. I've swatched this and its not that shiny. The "shine" is a bit subtle.Aside from their BB Creams, Missha's make-up line are also a bit on the affordable side. Their eyeshadows and blushes are around P400 each, and their nail polish is around P120.
What I loved most is their packaging! Who wouldn't want to get cute compacts like these?
M Prism Multi Blusher, at around P1,300M Signature Radiance Two-way Pact , around P1,200
The store for me is just so-so. The space is crammed with too much shelves and stuff, its hard to move freely around. The salesladies also have to get their upper lips waxed. I honestly believe that if the person selling the cosmetics doesn't look groomed or polished, I don't think I'd want to buy things from them.
It was an over-all average experience. I liked looking at the pretty stuff, but there's no huge must go-back urge for me. Maybe when I go to Korea in the summer I'll stock up on Missha stuff, but I don't think I will in their Philippine branch.
Sad though, because I had looked forward to buying something because I've heard so many good things about Missha.

Miss You Like Crazy: Does This Poster Make Me Look Fat?

Bea Alonzo should've checked this poster TWICE before agreeing to have it printed: I don't know about you, but that pose makes her look pregnant.

Miss You Like Crazy, the long-awaited couple comeback of John Lloyd-Cruz and Bea Alonzo, known for giving us the legendary characters of Popoy and Basha and the greatest lines ever to hit Philippine cinemas ("You had me at my best, she had me at my worst, but you chose to break my heart."), will grace theaters on February 24, 2010.
The film is directed by Cathy Grace-Molina. Aminin! You'll be watching this, right?

Food for thought, what does Cathy Grace-Molina and Bb. Joyce Bernal have in common?

Trend Worth A Try: The Red Cardigan

Gone are the days when the red cardigan has been attributed to the lovable Mr. Rogers (or was it a pull-over?). For that extra 'oomph' of color when your outfit feels extraordinarily drab, try wearing a red cardigan!

I love the way it adds dimension to anything you can be wearing. Its also pretty versatile since you can wear it for work or for play.

If you do want to try this out, cost is not going to be a problem since there are great looking cardigans out there that are worth every penny.

RA 8491: Otherwise known as the law Adidas could be sued for

Remember my previous entry wherein I said that there was a law that prohibited wearing the flag? I finally found it the law:

RA 8491: AN ACT PRESCRIBING THE CODE OF THE NATIONAL FLAG, ANTHEM, MOTTO, COAT-OF-ARMS AND OTHER HERALDIC ITEMS AND DEVICES OF THE PHILIPPINES

So in Sec. 34, it is prohibited to "...e) To wear the flag in whole or in part as a costume or uniform;"

I have yet to find out whether its literally wearing the Philippine flag OR if it also applies to even its colors (or when you try to make it look like you're wearing a flag?).

See the law here. What do you think?

My friend told me that it includes "representation of the flag", so it looks like its part of it!

The Search for the Best Strapless Bra: La Senza!

One my biggest pet peeves (and I'm sure a lot of females also hate this as well) is a bad strapless bra that insists on falling down your chest. Not only do you have to resist the urge to pull it up while in public, you also have to keep checking whether your bra is still in place! Hassle, sobra!

Fortunately, I came across an article way back then from Lucy Torres-Gomez who recommended the perfect strapless bra from La Senza. Back then, La Senza was still fairly new to the Philippines so I had to go to their only branch to buy one. The bras are pretty pricey, but they're a good investment if you're looking for a sturdy and effective strapless bra.

I've had my strapless bra from La Senza (from their Lola & Coco collection) for 3 years now, still sturdy like the day I bought it, and it stays true to its promise, it never budges from my chest! Their strapless bras have its own unique Stay Put technology that has a silicone band to keep the bra in place.

The Adidas Philippine Range: Another Excuse to Wear Red, White and Blue Together

Adidas finally gives us another reason to wear our country's colors with their all new Philippine Range line (featuring Mr. Pogi himself, John Lloyd Cruz as the standard flagbearer). The product also has Iza Calzado, the boys from Boys Night Out, Chris Tiu, Lia Cruz, and Enrico Villanuenva among others endorsing it.

The jacket, shirt and bag is available this month!

At the risk of being called unpatriotic, well, I'm not really excited for this because I feel like Philippine icons and such have been overused these past 2 years. I know nothing beats wearing your country's colors proudly, but it just seems that every brand is jumping the patriotic bandwagon. Do you guys know what I mean? There's too much Ninoy/Cory paraphernalia (and we all know its just a secret code of Bench campaigning for Noynoy), red blue and white items, just about everything has to be Philippine-themed.

I feel that the country's colors are not as sacred as they used to be. I bet you can debate with me on this...you might say that at least the youth, the people, everyone else is finally cherishing our Philippine heritage. But maybe make them recite the Panatang Makabayan or sing the Lupang Hinirang in full first before we say that nationalism is really alive.

Wasn't there a law before that forbid using the Philippine flag's colors? Or is it just "wearing" it that was forbidden?

But...I might feel differently about it if someone gives me this bag:

The jacket costs PHP3,295 while the bag and shirt costs PHP1,495, available in selected Adidas shops.

Beauty & Minerals' Kabuki Brush + Monave Blush Review

Call me totally out of touch, but as much as a make-up whore as I am, I am still pretty much a newborn to the whole mineral make-up concept. I got curious when I noticed my friend using it on an everyday basis. It got me thinking, is there really a difference?

I guess I never bothered with the thought because ordinary make-up doesn't make me break-out nor cause other imperfections. But I think mineral make-up is a godsend for those who do. I finally got around to buying myself my first mineral make-up blush from Beauty & Minerals, together with a Charm kabuki brush, courtesy of their Charm Luxe Kabuki Promo (Get the Charm Luxe Kabuki and a Beauty & Minerals minipot mineral for only P880! The minipot turns out to be only P300, so you save P50!).
I got my order around 2 days ago (delivery was very prompt after payment), and here it is:I ordered this set thinking that I could use the Kabuki brush for my MAC press powder (because their powder puff totally sucks) and use the pouch as storage for both. No, so wrong! The pouch and the brush was smaller than I expected. Its about this big:
I also compared it to the size of my iPOD Classic. Its around 3/4 of it.
But size aside, the brush is very soft. Its made of vegan hair, meaning its synthetic. I don't really like the idea of having animal hairs on my brushes so this is good for me. I also love the color! The hairs do not come apart while you use it. No falling hairs for this brush.
IMPT NOTE: After a few months of using the brush, I washed it ONCE, and the glue that held the metal part is coming apart from the actual brush. I don't mean that the hairs are falling apart, but the metal part is coming OFF. Makes me regret getting this because how will I use it hygienically if I can't wash it!?!?
Next up is the blush. I took my chances in choosing this shade because obviously, you can't swatch what you see on their website. I was disappointed when I first opened it and swiped some on my hand and saw how many shimmers it had. (Totally hate shimmery anything unless its for your eyes) But oh well, I had yet to try it on my face so I was hoping it would get better.
And it did! I'm impressed with how subtle it brightens up my cheeks. I had to build up the color a little to get this shade though I used an ordinary blush brush for it. I like the texture of the kabuki brush as compared to my previous powder brush. Its softer and less rough on my skin.So there's my 1st mineral make-up experience. I doubt if I'll ever be getting more of these babies because I'm sticking to my chemicals. I'm just glad I got to experience it and judge for myself on what the hype on mineral make-up is all about.
CHARM Kabuki Brush + MONAVE mineral blush in Mystic Rose = PHP880 + 70 (shipping fee) = PHP950 all available at Beauty and Minerals.

VIVA GLAM-GAGA: There's a New Lipstick in Town!

After hearing news that MAC has apparently tapped Lady GaGa together with pop icon Cyndi Lauper for their AIDS campaign (I'm sure you girls know Viva Glam), I just had to know what color would represent Lady Gaga in their lipstick collection.
Wonders will never cease to amaze me, the hue that Lady Gaga is wearing right there is called the Viva Glam Gaga:Defined as a light blue pink, I thought they would give her like an electric shade of red. But no, MAC gives us something that is wearable even for those who are definitely not Lady Gagas.

Costs $14 (PHP700, but maybe its around Php900 if you buy it here), the lipstick is encased in its usual Viva Glam red and black packaging, with Lady Gaga's signature emblazoned on the tube.It looks like a pretty color to me, and I have been scouring for a nice wearable pink I can use for my lips, since their unusually too red which makes me hesitant to wear lipsticks on an everyday basis. I'll drop by the MAC in Rockwell tomorrow to see if they already have this available, I'll keep you guys posted!

NOTE: Still not available in MAC Philippine stores! I was utterly disappointed.

How to Clean Your Make-Up Brushes (The Cheaper Way!)

I used to not clean my make-up brushes all the time because I hated using up too much of my brush cleaner. I thought it was a waste of money to buy brush cleaners all the time! Pretty nasty, huh? I know! I really want to kick myself whenever I remember this. Not only was it totally unhygienic, it was a stupid reason for not cleaning them.

My product of choice then was Elianto's Brush Cleaner, costs a whopping PHP600, which some people might say is a steal for the price, but then again when you use your brushes everyday and have to clean them, well it does get burdensome on the pocket.

Thankfully, my favorite guru, Michelle Phan, posted a video on how she cleans her brushes the cheap way. Its actually simple!

If you don't want to watch the video, here's how to do it:

1) Buy yourself an ANTI-BACTERIAL Liquid Hand Soap. Remember the anti-bacterial word because this is crucial to disinfecting your brushes to get rid of the accumulated bacteria. I suggest using Dial's Liquid Hand Soap in Gold, you can usually find it in any supermarket. I also use the huge hand liquid soap that Watsons has, in lavender.:)

2) Squeeze a few drops of the soap on a small plate. Totally optional, but if you want your brushes to be extra moisturized, add a bit of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

3) Dip your brush into your mixture and swirl it around to coat it in.

4) Place the end of the brush on the palm of your hand and move it around back and forth (see picture! But to give you an idea, just move the brush as if you're drawing lines to get the make-up out) against your skin to get the make-up out. Use the front and back of your hand if necessary, and just wash it off if its already completely covered in make-up. Repeat until the brush stops secreting anything!

5) After you're done doing this to all your brushes, just rinse everything through COLD running water until it runs clear.

6) Pat the brushes dry with a TABLE NAPKIN. Ordinary toilet paper can leave lint on your brushes.

7) Line your brushes on a spread-out table napkin and let them dry. And voila! Squeaky clean brushes that aren't dry!

Michelle's tips also say: Its best if you can clean your foundation, concealer and eyeliner brushes everyday because these are the main tools you use for the sensitive areas of your face such as your waterline. You can clean your eyeshadow brushes less often.

I hope you guys can try this out because this can really save your money and will encourage you to clean your brushes more. Let me know how your experience was and remember, it pays to be cheap in the simplest of ways.:D

The Search for Who to Follow Next on Twitter

What's great about having celebs in Twitter is that the website actually verifies their accounts so you'll definitely know if there's a faker lurking around unlike for other social sites such as the now extinct Friendster and Multiply.

If you're like me and you sometimes just look for who to follow next on Twitter, why not try following a local celeb? Admit it, no matter how sosyal you claim to be, when an artista is in the same room as you are you can't help stealing glances at them (sabay sabi ng: UY SI _____! Siya ba 'yan? Bakit ang iba ng itsura niya sa TV?)! Now its even better, you can actually see their daily updates and talk to them (some are extremely generous and do respond to your requests).

Well, Twitter doesn't exactly verify whether the local celeb is a true account, nevertheless judging from the same people who they mention in their tweets, you'll be assured that its the same person you see on TV.

SPOT.PH presents to you a list of the most followed local celebs on Twitter. Let's get the Top 5 and see what they have to say:

1. Anne Curtis

Followers: To be on top of the list means you have a LOT of followers, and as for her case, she has a total of 104,808 followers!

Following: Claudine Barretto, Zsa Zsa Padilla, an Anne Curtis Kapamilya fan club, Mar Roxas, Lea Salonga, Noynoy Aquino (ok we now know who she's voting for this 2010)

Tweets: 2,167

Best to take note of: How gorgeous she looks on her profile picture as well as her background. This girl is whooooooaaa.

2. Bianca Gonzales

Followers: 89,760, a far cry from above's over 100k.

Following: Oprah Winfrey, Efren Penaflorida, Iza Calzado, Gang Badoy, Noynoy and Mar (are all Kapamilya stars going to vote for them?)

Tweets: 3,361

Best to take note of: Her profile pic which looks like it was taken from her laptop webcam. Or cellphone? I honestly find her boring as paper (do not take those lines of...but she's an Atenean! She leads the youth!--ramblings with me. She's just boring!)

3. Ruffa Gutierrez

Followers: Its close to 2nd, but she's only got 82,546. Probably because her tweets are protected and you have to request to see them...which I did. What can I say I looooove this woman!

Following: Lindsay Lohan (loooove it!), Ivanka Trump (omg we follow the same people), Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey...see? Celebs love celebs as well.

Best to take note of: She guards her tweets unlike others who are found on this list. And this is the first time I learned that Gutierrez is spelled with only one T.

4. KC Concepcion

Followers: A mere 74,636 as compared to the Ruffita.

Following: Bianca Gonzales, Denise Laurel, former US Ambassador Kristie Kenney, Ruffita, Nicole Richie, Tim Yap, Britney Spears

Tweets: 498...wow has she been on Twitter just lately?

Best to take note of: Aaaaaaaack I hate this girl! I will never EVER follow her! She doesn't even know how to act nor sing, and I have NO IDEA why they still make her do it! And I am so sick and tired of hearing her say she's been to Paris. Wow yeah so have a million other people. Nobody cares!!! (Rant end)

5. Mariel Rodriguez

Followers: 70,863

Following: Yup, she's voting for Noynoy. Enough said. Okay fine, I'll be nice and I'll put in who she's been following. There's Valerie Concepcion, K Brosas, Sam Milby, Chokoleit, Kris Aquino (who never updates), and RR Enriquez who has this hideous picture of herself

Tweets: 1,174

Best to take note of: She favorited this tweet of her fan that said..."gorgeous_caren @itsmemarielt i think you have the making of next kris aquino.. you're both intelligent, witty and worth watching for.." Guess we now know who her idol is?

Other people you might be interested in following: POKWANG! Or otherwise known as Marietta Subong.

Or you can try...ME! Which celebrity do you love to follow and why?

Presenting...My Brand New Hair Color!

You probably remember my previous entry which showed this girl:
Because I wanted to copy her hair color for the very first time I got it done professionally.
I was the first customer for my favorite stylist, Ms. Jinny Kim. I showed her the picture above since it was my desired color. She recommended getting highlights as well to achieve the look. I closed my eyes and took the plunge because I figured, this is the first time I'm doing this and well, the hair color is free anyway.
They made me wear the cutest robe ever, it looks like a hanbok (what Korean women used to wear way back then, think Jewel in the Palace days) to protect the clothes I was wearing. Ms. Jinny started with the highlights first, because she said that it would blend better with the over-all color. Which actually makes sense so that there will be no streaky effect. They placed gold foil all over my head and used this funky looking heater that plays a Christmas song when the time's up. This took about an hour and 30 mins.
After a quick rinse, Ms. Jinny applied the hair color which took around another 3o mins. I was praying with all my might that the color would turn out well. How did it turn out?
Here I am! I had full bangs done (which Ms. Jinny gave me free of charge because I had so many services) just like the picture above except that I pushed them back here because it was pretty hot.
I think that they did an excellent job, the color is exactly the same as I wanted, I don't think it's fully captured in this photo. But I am extremely satisfied with how it turned out, especially the highlights! Definitely worth the small fortune I spent.
Total was PHP3,200 (hair color) + PHP 3,700 (highlights) = PHP6,900.
Yup a pretty hefty sum to pay for just hair color. But I think most salons have the same rate anyway. I don't think I'll be getting my hair colored professionally that much, I'm just glad this turned out right and I've been getting tons of compliments!
What about you? Ever thought of getting your hair done professionally? If you do, where do you usually get your color?
