Oscars 2010 Fashion: What I Loved!

I know a lot of blogs out there are doing their yearly Oscars fashion rundown, but I want to keep things simple here and just list down the dresses I like, and throw in a comment or two.

MOST UNFLATTERING CHOICE OF COLOR GOES TO...Amanda Seyfried!

I don't know about you, but maybe she should've gotten a self-tanner before she wore this dress. It just washes her out! Or maybe she could've paired the  gown with an eye-catching lipstick such as a bright red.

NAUBUSAN NA NG TELA AWARD GOES TO...Zoe Saldana

Okay I don't know what she was thinking, obviously she wanted to be unconventional which is why she went for this dress. But come on! The dress looks like it lacked the needed material which is why different fabrics and textures were used. I don't like it at all.

MY DRESS LOOKS FANTASTIC BUT I DID SOMETHING TO MAKE IT LOOK BAD GOES TO...(2 winners, wuhoo!)Miley Cyrus (or is it Billy Ray in a dress? She looks so much like her dad!)

Let's admit it, the dress looks like what Zoe Saldana's dress aspires to be when it grows up. The accessories are working with it, but then Miley strikes a pose and becomes a hunchback. Somebody teach her some posture!

Tina Fey

The dress has a flattering cut on her, but then we see a little pouch hanging around her middle, making her look pregnant, or that she just pigged out a nearby Burger King. 

I LOOK GORGEOUS BECAUSE I HAVE WAVES GOES TO...Jennifer Lopez

J.Lo hasn't had a miss in years, and credit has to go especially to her, she knows what her body type is and she knows what just works! This dress shows us that pastel colors can also be worn by adults. Black can go to the tweens, but colors are a go-to especially in spring.

The actresses I surprisingly loved what they were wearing are:

Meryl Streep

She looks beyond regal in white. We all know that she isn't known for her fashion sense (unless someone is dressing her up in wardrobe for The Devil Wears Prada), but she pulled this off quite nicely.

Rachel McAdams

I don't know if anyone would agree with me on this, but I loved this gown. It just screamed, SPRING!!! Its my fave out of the whole bunch, looks extremely wearable for anyone. I love how its so laid-back but incredibly apt for the occasion.

Trend Worth A Try: The Red Cardigan

Gone are the days when the red cardigan has been attributed to the lovable Mr. Rogers (or was it a pull-over?). For that extra 'oomph' of color when your outfit feels extraordinarily drab, try wearing a red cardigan!

I love the way it adds dimension to anything you can be wearing. Its also pretty versatile since you can wear it for work or for play.

If you do want to try this out, cost is not going to be a problem since there are great looking cardigans out there that are worth every penny.

RA 8491: Otherwise known as the law Adidas could be sued for

Remember my previous entry wherein I said that there was a law that prohibited wearing the flag? I finally found it the law:

RA 8491: AN ACT PRESCRIBING THE CODE OF THE NATIONAL FLAG, ANTHEM, MOTTO, COAT-OF-ARMS AND OTHER HERALDIC ITEMS AND DEVICES OF THE PHILIPPINES

So in Sec. 34, it is prohibited to "...e) To wear the flag in whole or in part as a costume or uniform;"

I have yet to find out whether its literally wearing the Philippine flag OR if it also applies to even its colors (or when you try to make it look like you're wearing a flag?).

The Adidas Philippine Range: Another Excuse to Wear Red, White and Blue Together

Adidas finally gives us another reason to wear our country's colors with their all new Philippine Range line (featuring Mr. Pogi himself, John Lloyd Cruz as the standard flagbearer). The product also has Iza Calzado, the boys from Boys Night Out, Chris Tiu, Lia Cruz, and Enrico Villanuenva among others endorsing it.

The jacket, shirt and bag is available this month!  

At the risk of being called unpatriotic, well, I'm not really excited for this because I feel like Philippine icons and such have been overused these past 2 years. I know nothing beats wearing your country's colors proudly, but it just seems that every brand is jumping the patriotic bandwagon. Do you guys know what I mean? There's too much Ninoy/Cory paraphernalia (and we all know its just a secret code of Bench campaigning for Noynoy), red blue and white items, just about everything has to be Philippine-themed.

I feel that the country's colors are not as sacred as they used to be. I bet you can debate with me on this...you might say that at least the youth, the people, everyone else is finally cherishing our Philippine heritage. But maybe make them recite the Panatang Makabayan or sing the Lupang Hinirang in full first before we say that nationalism is really alive.

Wasn't there a law before that forbid using the Philippine flag's colors? Or is it just "wearing" it that was forbidden?

But...I might feel differently about it if someone gives me this bag:

Who ever thought that being nationalistic would ever look this chic?

BeScene Fashion Registry with Metro, MEGA, and Preview

Definitely a very delayed post, but forgive me because there were so many pressing things to do!

Powerplant Mall decided that it was finally time to give back to their loyal customers by creating the BeScene Fashion Registry. The first 150 guests who went were given a PowerStyle card, good for freebies and discounts in certain stores.

The event was celebrated by having the top 3 fashion magazines (Metro, MEGA, and Preview) in the Philippines with their stylists choose their favorite items at participating stores. Guests had the chance of winning these if their own wish list was picked at the end of the night. 

Me and "Lamb" together with our other friend "Baconator" (not in this picture obviously) were able to go to both MEGA's and Preview's top picks.:D Had a lot of fun going around the stores and looking at all the nice things! Sadly none of us won the raffle, but it was a good experience, nonetheless.

Great great finds @ Rockwell Urban Bazaar

I have to admit I was a doubter. But last Aug.28, 2009, I became a believer!!!

I entirely blame my friend whom I shall hide behind the name "Lamb", because she was the one who persuaded me to go inside the Rockwell Urban Bazaar. I went in with little expectations, trying to keep in mind that I already spent a hundred buckaroos on the entrance alone and would only buy an item if and only if I really really wanted it.

But wow once I got inside, I spotted great great stuff that are definitely worth sharing on my blog:

1) Frou Frou's Rockstar Bomb (PHP650)

Definitely perfect with black leggings (Topshop) and gladiator sandals (Charles and Keith). One thing I always do when shopping for clothes, I make an inventory of everything I can pair it with so I will not buy anything in vain. Looks exactly like the top I was looking for that Dara had on in one of her band's (2ne1) performances:

2) Studded gold buckle belt (PHP600)

You guys might kill me and say that the belt was real pricey, but I thought it was a good bargain because it makes all the outfits I wore pop and is very easy to partner with anything! Most of the belts I see around retails for over a thousand bucks so it was worth it.

My friend Lamb was actually able to buy 3 dresses, 1 skirt, and a necklace all for around PHP3,000. Very very much a bargain, and 2 of those dresses came from Frou Frou, which is now our favorite brand. I actually did not spend as much I wanted because I just bought new shoes the past week, but if I didn't, I would have used up all my resources, tee-hee! Retail therapy has to be the best therapy ever!

Love Being a Student with Topshop!

We consistently moan and groan about still staying in school and how looooong it has been taking before we finally end the dreary days of studying, but fear not, TOPSHOP has found a way to make everything brighter for those of us fighting off the doldrums.

If you make me choose between Zara, Topshop and Mango (the usual go-tos of us financially deprived for designer labels but can still afford gorgeous things), without hesitating, I will say, "GIMME MY TOPSHOP!", because the store basically has everything that I alude my funky style to. One of the most important things a girl has to keep in mind is to define what her style is. I am definitely not a preppy girl, which Zara and Mango specializes in. I have to admit that everytime Topshop has a sale my credit card gets overused because there are just so many good things to get! (Okay I have to admit that it doesn't only happen during sales.) Also, it has a Petite line which many short Filipinas love.

One of my best buys during those sales is this skirt featured here on your right, called a Colour Block Prom skirt (mine came in pink, white and gray though, yes I'm more whimsical that way). I remember that I got it on sale, exactly 50% off! It was the last skirt on the rack and I just had to have it. The zipper was actually broken, because some inane person somehow managed to zip up the cloth along with it. But I had every person in the store do their best efforts to fix it (with me constantly nagging them, "How the hell are you going to sell that skirt if it's broken!?"), and eventually the zipper was mended and I was able to buy it. Best efforts are best rewarded, and this skirt has been my favorite item in my closet.

Some have been asking me where the best selections can be found in their many different branches. I haven't been to ALL of the branches, but I always end up buying either in the Trinoma or the Greenbelt branch so I guess those are the best for me.

Now, Topshop is offering ALL STUDENTS 10% off all year long! The bad news is, this is only for Topshop UK. Here in Manila, its only from June 1-30 (craaaapness) just in time for going back to school. I know its annoying, but all good things come to an end and this is one of those. What are you waiting for? Go out and get the best that you can because before you know it, the end of the month's already here!
